Building community through support and service

The Student Nurses Association (SNA) has a new executive team who plans to make the club much more involved. The SNA is for students currently enrolled in the nursing program and students trying to navigate their pre-nursing requirements.

“We want to give everyone a space for support and a group of people who want to see them succeed,” SNA president, MaKaila Wadsworth said.

This year the club will be focusing on building teamwork skills. The executive team plans to collaborate with other healthcare related clubs to show students how to work together with different careers they would be working with after graduation.

SNA is also trying to be recognized as a university-sanctioned club so more future nurses can hear about it. Wadsworth hopes to collaborate with Sanford employees so members can learn from and talk to nurses from different units. A peer mentorship program will also be implemented.

“The program would allow pre-nursing or other nursing students the opportunity to ask someone questions about anything regarding the nursing program, whether that’s about a specific class, how to apply to the program or successful study habits,” SNA Communications Chair, Kailey Martinec, said.

Another goal that the club has is to volunteer more and have greater community impact.

The club plans to meet at least once a month for an hour. There will be a meeting Sep. 24 for students who missed the first meeting of the semester.
