On Monday, Sept. 28th an annual Dakota Days carnival took place in the Muensters University Center ball room. This carnival was organized to help students get even more hype for Dakota Days.

There were multiple different activities to attend and participate in. Students got to enjoy games like cornhole, a chopstick race, ring toss, Plinco, cup pong, and more.

“It is actually amazing and I am so grateful to be here, to see this and also be a part of it,” A USD student, Adiam Ezuz, said, “It just brings so many people together and I am so happy I was able to be here.”

Ezuz is very excited to try new foods during this week of Dakota Days.

While participating in the games the carnival offered, students were able to listen to the band, “Beverly Hills Thrift Store.” One student in particular, Gwen Beals, showed up to support the band and her friend Korbin Maertins the guitarist.

Attending the carnival Beals also got to enjoy the many different activities they had to offer.

“We got corn dogs from outside, and we tried a fried oreo, and then we got stickers from Spectrum (a student organization) and a free red bull from the Coyote Crazies,” Beals said.

The delicious food was provided from the food trucks that were stationed outside for students and faculty to enjoy.

At the carnival there was also a Dome Dog eating contents, and the Dakota Days Royalty reveal. The game that really took over the carnival, however, was nine square.

“I’ve been glued to the nine square game the whole time,” Austin O’Bryan, a freshman, Coyote Crazy said.

A freshman musical theater major, Kendel Baldwin and a USD cheerleader, Albert Ngandu, also agreed with this statement.

There are many other events going on this week with “Feed the Funnel” occurring on Wednesday 3:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. which is a partnered meal packing event with students in the AWOL organization. There is a USD student street dance on Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. On Friday there are multiple different events recognizing our alumni and Saturday is packed with Coyote pride activities.

“[I am most looking forward to] the Dakota Debate, the debate between the college Republicans and the college Democrats.” Thomas Adler, a student at USD said.

The debate takes place on Wednesday, Sept. 30, in Old Main’s Farber Hall. Adler encourages everyone to attend and support the fellow debaters.

Many other activities take place that are not listed so be sure to look out for more information from different flyers and social media posts.

Above all events the main highlight most students have been looking forward to is the upcoming football game. The game is a match up between South Dakota Coyotes football and Indiana State University at 2 p.m on Saturday Oct. 3.

The game will be held in the Dakota Dome and is free to all college students. Go support the fellow Coyotes and attend the game.
