Elvis Guitar Donor Blames Attorney For Not Answering Lawsuit
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — A man who donated to a South Dakota museum a guitar played by Elvis Presley blames his attorney for not responding to a federal lawsuit addressing a custody dispute over the instrument.
Robert A. Johnson portrayed himself as the guitar’s owner when he gave it to the National Music Museum in 2013. But a federal judge hasn’t heard from him in more than six months after he was named a defendant in the complaint.
Johnson’s last known address is in Memphis, Tennessee, but he tells The Associated Press he is in Washington state. He says he has responded to the complaint through his lawyer.
The museum has asked the judge to allow the publication of a newspaper ad in Memphis notifying Johnson of his obligation to answer the complaint.
