Spearfish Locals Launch Music Festival In Black Hills
SPEARFISH, S.D. (AP) — Some Spearfish locals are hoping to bring the spirit of national music festivals to the Black Hills with their first annual two-day festival.
Organizers for the Black Hills Music Festival have booked 11 bands and hope to bring a roster of eclectic groups to a state that can be short on out-of-state performers.
The Black Hills Pioneer reports ( ) the festival is set for Memorial Day weekend at the Elkhorn Ridge RV Resort in Spearfish.
Hailima Yates, one of the festival organizers, says she and her partners were motivated by successful festivals like Coachella in California and Bonnaroo in Tennessee. But Yates says the true inspiration actually came from Woodstock.
She says Woodstock brought a variety of different people and styles of music together, and she hopes their festival can do the same.
