Rapid City Mayor Announces He Will Seek Third Term In Office

RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) — The mayor of Rapid City says he is seeking a third term in office.

Sam Kooiker (KWAY’-kur) announced this re-election campaign Thursday.

The 40-year-old Kooiker says if re-elected he plans to improve race relations and resolve long-standing issues the city has faced in complying with the Americans with Disabilities Act. He says he will also continue his focus on the improving city’s infrastructure.

So far, Kooiker does not have any official challengers.

He has served as mayor since 2011.

The city municipal election will be held June 2.
