Rosebud Sioux Tribal Council Removes President From Office

RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) — The Rosebud Sioux Tribal Council has removed President Cyril “Whitey” Scott from office.

The Rapid City Journal reports ( ) that the council made the move Tuesday, resolving a period of uncertain leadership that afflicted the south-central South Dakota tribe for much of Scott’s time in office.

A telephone listing for Scott could not be found.

Scott won election in 2012 but was suspended in 2013 and had been entangled in various ethics-related proceedings since then. The council not only removed him from the presidency but also banned him from running for any tribal office in the future.

Tribal Vice President Willie Kindle will serve as acting president until a new president is elected in September.
