The state Department of Corrections said in a news release that 36-year-old David Holloway was reported missing at the South Dakota State Penitentiary campus Sunday morning. About 225 inmates are housed in the minimum-security unit at the prison.
The corrections department said Holloway is serving a 10-year sentence for grand theft in Pennington County and a 2-year sentence for eluding a police officer in Yankton County.
According to the agency, Holloway is a 6-foot-tall white man with brown hair and brown eyes, and weighs about 180 pounds. The corrections department asks anyone with information on his whereabouts to contact law enforcement immediately.
