USD Football Stacks Conference Wins

The University of South Dakota’s football team is on a five-game winning streak heading into a rivalry game against South Dakota State University on Saturday in Brookings, S.D.

Two weeks ago, USD won big on Dakota Days. The Coyotes started the game hot, leading 28-10 at halftime, and cruised to a 42-17 win over Missouri Valley Football Conference (MVFC) foe Northern Iowa.

In weekly awards, USD linebacker Gary Bryant III was named the MVFC Defensive Player of the Week. In the win, he tied for the team-high with 11 tackles, including one tackle for loss.

Last week, the Coyotes secured their first-ever win against Youngstown State at Stambaugh Stadium. USD was down 14-0 with 9:22 left in the second quarter until Aidan Bouman connected with Quaron Adams to make it 14-7.

USD fought back and took its first lead with 5:10 left in the third quarter, making it 24-17. The Coyotes added one more score, a Will Leyland field goal, to seal a 27-17 victory.

USD’s recent success has made for an intriguing matchup, especially with SDSU coming off a loss. The South Dakota State Jackrabbits dropped in the rankings after their 13-9 loss to North Dakota State on Saturday, Oct. 19.

Saturday’s matchup will feature the Coyotes, who are 6-1, against the 5-2 Jackrabbits. The game is a top-five showdown, as SDSU is ranked third and USD is ranked fourth in the nation.

SDSU will host USD in Brookings on Saturday, Oct. 26, at 6:30 p.m. CDT at Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium. The game will be nationally televised on ESPNU.

Looking ahead, USD will be off for the week following the SDSU game.
