USD volleyball takes down Omaha

Coyote volleyball (17-9) swept Omaha (15-11) on Sunday, beating them 25-23, 25-20, 25-16.

The win moves the Yotes to second place in the Summit League, passing Omaha and setting them one step closer to a title win. The Coyotes are now 11-3 in the Summit League, overtaking Omaha (10-4 Conf). Denver (24-1, 13-0) still stands first ahead of USD and continues to grow their 22-game win streak.

USD last met Omaha on Oct. 12, dropping the last two matches in a 3-1 loss, this time, the team improved as they played deeper into the match, head coach Leanne Williamson said.

“We started the first game slow, but really continued to get stronger as the match went on,” Williamson told GoYotes. “We played some really good defense as the match went on which gave our offense time to be patient and find ways to score.”

Senior Hayley Dotseth led the win with 19 kills, 13 digs, and a .308 hitting percentage.

Junior libero Anne Rasmussen’s 19 digs moved her to 1,300 career digs, eighth most in USD volleyball history.

“It feels great to see hard work paying off, from not just myself but my teammates who have helped me reach this milestone,” Anne Rasmussen told The Volante in an email. “I am excited to see what the rest of my career as a Coyote will bring and I just want to continue to put my best out there one day at a time.”

Lolo Wiedeman also provided 14 digs, Mehana Fonseca with 12, and both Taylor Wilson and Madison Jurgens with 5. Setter Madison Jurgens also gave 38 of USD’s 45 assists.

Senior Taylor Wilson racked ten kills for and nine more came from junior Elizabeth Loschen. Wilson and Loschen also had .304 and a .364 hitting percentages, respectively.

The Coyotes finish the regular season at the Sanford Coyote Sports Center against North Dakota (14-16, 6-8) on Friday, Nov. 9 and North Dakota State (7-18, 5-9) on Sunday, Nov. 11.

“We are looking forward to finishing our regular season at home in front of our own fans,” Williamson said.
