Busy upcoming week for Vermillion Tanagers high school athletics

Football:

Following the Tanagers’ dominant season opener win against the Belle Fourche Broncos, they faced the Tea Titans in an away game Friday, Sept. 4. However, the Tanagers’ were unable to match the previous week’s performance and fell 54-0 to the Titans. The Tanagers allowed the Titans a total of 471 yards of total offense.

Vermillion’s top performances were highlighted by quarterback Charlie Ward who threw for 83 yards and Connor Saunders who caught 56 of those yards.

Vermillion’s next game is set for Friday, Sept. 11, at 7 p.m. against Tri-Valley (0-1).

 Boy’s Soccer:

The Tanagers won the first three matches of their season in dominant fashion against James Valley Christian (7-1), Harrisburg (4-1) and Groton Area (6-1).

The Tanagers winning streak was broken by Sioux Falls Christian Tuesday night. The Tanagers lost 0-5 at the away game.

Their next game is Sept. 12 against James Valley Christian at Vermillion.

Girl’s Soccer:

The Tanagers girls soccer team tied the West Central Titans (1-1) on Thursday, Sept. 3. This makes Vermillion’s record to 2-2-2.

The Tanager’s next game is in Sioux Falls against Sioux Falls Christian Sept. 10.

Volleyball:

The Tanagers volleyball team failed to improve their 1-1 record and fell to the Lennox Orioles on Sept. 5, in a close five-set match. In a back and forth game, Vermillion won the first set (25-22), lost the second set (26-24), won the third set (25-22) and lost the final two sets (25-22) (15-13).

The Tanagers won their first three sets against Bon-Homme Tuesday night in Tyndall. Vermillion swiftly won the match up (25-18) (25-19) (25-17).

The Tanager’s next game is Sept. 10 against Tri-Valley in Vermillion at 7:15 p.m.

Cross Country:

Following the men’s team’s 3rd place finish and the women’s team’s 8th place finishes at the Beresford XC Invitational on Aug. 28 the teams now head to the Canton Cross Country Invite at the Hiawatha Golf Course on Sept. 8. The boy’s varsity race is set for 4:15 p.m. and the girl’s varsity race is set for 4:40 p.m.

Next up for the Tanagers is the SF Christian Charger Invite at the Kuehn Park in Sioux Falls on Sept. 15.
