The Rant: IT Help Desk needs help
Dear fellow students,
The Information Technology Services Help Desk located in the library can be of great assistance. That is, if you don’t expect too much of them and you don’t mind waiting a ridiculous amount of time for them to complete orders.
Not too long ago, I was experiencing some issues with my computer, and after receiving emails from the university about how the ITS Help Desk was at our service, I figured I may as well utilize the service I help fund through my tuition and fees. Little did I know how stressful and awful my experience with the ITS Help Desk would be.
I was without a computer for more than two weeks while they completed a “diagnostic.” I’m no computer technician, but I didn’t know it took two weeks to figure out the protective case was the cause of a computer malfunction. As you are probably already thinking, this is a ridiculous diagnosis, and the case was in fact not the source of my computer troubles.
Wanting to make up for their first diagnostic, the ITS Help Desk took my computer in again, ran another diagnostic test and installed a hard drive cable. I must say, I was impressed. My computer ran like new again for about a week until it completely crashed.
Refusing to go back to the ITS Help Desk again, I found out from a computer repair company in Sioux Falls the hard drive cable had been installed improperly, causing numerous other issues.
Bottom line, ladies and gentleman: Don’t rely on the ITS Help Desk for any real computer servicing.
Best,
