Mitchell Man Who Died In Crash Had History Of Fleeing Police

MITCHELL, S.D. (AP) — A Mitchell man who died when he fled from police and crashed into a parked car had a history of running from law officers.

Court documents obtained by The Daily Republic newspaper ( ) show that 33-year-old Ryan McManus had been involved in at least three other incidents since 2004 in which police said he fled from officers, either in a vehicle or on foot.

Police say McManus fled from a Davison County sheriff’s deputy early Saturday and led authorities on a chase until losing control of his car and crashing into the parked vehicle. The state Highway Patrol and the Mitchell Police Department are investigating.
