Intramural championships see dramatic finishes

The flag football intramural championships saw nothing short of dramatic finishes in the DakotaDome this week.

The top flag football teams clashed on the turf where their own Coyote football team practices and competes. The winner took home the ever-coveted intramural championship t-shirt.

In a Monday night battle, Blitzkrieg defended its men’s competitive title with a 25-20 victory over Leo’s. The champs won on the final play of regulation, clinching a birth in the regional tournament.

Last year, Blitzkrieg traveled to Lincoln, Neb., to compete in the regional college flag football tournament. The USD representative played teams from Air Force, Drake University and Concordia before losing in the championship game to a team from the University of Iowa.

Immediately following Blitzkrieg’s championship performance, the Nut Sackers took home the recreational men’s league title with a 19-12 win.

To add some more dramatics, NPS claimed the powderpuff title Tuesday night with a 20-19 victory over the Flying Bacons. NPS won in overtime with a two-point conversion to overcome the defending champion Bacons.

To conclude the championships, Phi Delt dropped Delt 1 by a dominant score of 27-12 to win the Greek league bracket. Phi Delt is starting a run of intramural championships in the Greek league, having won 5 v. 5 basketball last spring.
