Update: 23-year-old man missing in the Missouri River identified
UPDATE 9/7/16: Union County Sheriff Dan Limoges said the search and rescue effort to find 23-year-old missing Briar Cliff University student Tom Patterson has transitioned to a recovery effort.
“We have not located him yet,” Limoges said Wednesday afternoon.
Searchers are using boats and a plane to try to locate Patterson, who went missing around 5 p.m. Sunday while he was swimming with friends in the Missouri River southwest of Elk Point, South Dakota.
9/5/16: Authorities have identified the 23-year-old man missing in the Missouri River since Sunday night as Tom Patterson, a Briar Cliff University student.
Search efforts are still ongoing at this time, said Union County Sheriff Dan Limoges
Limoges said the search is still underway, and searchers have not transitioned to a recovery effort.
“We are still in search mode,” he said.
According to a Union County Sheriff’s Office news release, officials resumed the search this morning at 7 a.m. equipped with four dogs and three site scan sonar units.
Patterson went missing around 5 p.m. Sunday while he was swimming with friends in the Missouri River southwest of Elk Point, South Dakota.
Entities involved in the search include: Union County Sheriff’s Office, Yankton Search and Rescue, South Dakota Game Fish & Parks, Nebraska Game Fish & Parks, Brookings Search and Rescue K9 units and the Dixon County Sheriff’s Office.
