Women’s soccer team loses another heartbreaker in double overtime

Heading into their Sept. 15 game against Boise State University, the University of South Dakota women’s soccer team had already taken three teams into double overtime.

Make that four, tied 0-0.

At the end of both the 90th and 100th minutes, the Coyotes were one goal away from their first victory of the 2011 season, but just like the three previous times, they walked away empty-handed.

Boise State’s Erin Parks sunk a goal into the left side of the net that ended the 101-minute marathon, and the Coyotes hopes of the season’s first win.

Head coach Mandy Green said even though USD could not come away with a win, her team stayed competitive throughout.

“Boise State came out really well in the first half and dictated play,” Green said. “But, the second half was another story, we were more goal.”

Sophomore forwards Jenny Teslow and Afton Kieser led USD with three shots. Teslow and freshmen forward Lauren Bennett and mid-fielder Makena Cameron tied for shots on goal, each with one.
