Comedian Anthony Jeselnik kicks off Dakota Days in Aalfs Auditorium
Another year, another Dakota Days, another comedian.
The University of South Dakota kicked off the week by bringing in comedian Anthony Jeselnik, who performed in front of a large crowd in Slagle Hall’s Aalfs Auditorium.
Jeselnik began his routine by saying, “I have never been to South Dakota, but I can now cross Vermillion off my list of places I will never go to again.”
Jeselnik is most famous for his Comedy Central Roasts of Charlie Sheen, Donald Trump and Roseanne Barr. Judging by the engaged crowd, Jeselnik did not disappoint. He brought the laughs and kept them coming, and the majority of the audience seemed to appreciate his dry sense of humor.
USD students and other audience members also had the opportunity to hear a few of his jokes that had been cut out of his previous Central Comedy Roasts before being aired. But with many of the jokes revolving around sensitive issues like rape, suicide and race, junior Amanda Janssen didn’t think the show was very funny.
“I had three tests yesterday, and was hoping for some good laughs to un-stress, but I was kind of disappointed,” she said.
Sophomore Anna Fink agreed.
“Some of the jokes were really bad, and I felt bad for laughing,” she said. “It was still fun though,” she added.
Jeselnik made it clear to the audience that he did not care if he offended someone, warning students that if they had complaints, they would end up being a joke in his future shows.
Besides offending a few students, others who saw Jeselnik’s show thought it was a good way to have a few laughs, relieve the stress of the school week, and relax.
