Meet your classmates: Annie Miller keeps busy planning events
“Free time” is not a phrase University of South Dakota senior Annie Miller is all too familiar with.
A declared contemporary media and journalism major with an emphasis in advertising and public relations and a minor in political science, Miller currently juggles much of her time between Alpha Xi Delta and a half-dozen other campus activities.
Born in Remsen, Iowa, Miller is the daughter of Richard and Sue Parks, and has three older siblings, Jackie, Reggie and Tim.
Miller, 22, plans to graduate at the conclusion of the fall semester in December.
“I am not sure what I want to do after graduation,” She said.
While a plan is not set in stone for Miller, she said a career in event management and planning is something she will pursue.
Miller’s interest in event planning was first sparked by the enjoyment gained from planning and operating several major activities put on by her sorority.
“For the past year, I have been in charge of planning Greek Week events for Alpha Xi Delta, as well as Sisterhood Week,” Miller said. “Things get hectic and problematic, but I manage to stay pretty easygoing while planning.”
Miller was among the 14 students nominated for Miss Dakota Days 2012; however, on Oct. 4 when the ballot was cut to seven candidates, Miller was not among the seven chosen as a finalist.
Miller’s easygoing attitude carries over into the little free time she does have. When she is not busy planning events and getting involved, Miller enjoys watching movies, sitting down to enjoy a football game or spending time with her nieces and nephews.
Miller urges anyone not involved in campus activities to broaden their horizons.
“There really are clubs and organizations out there for everyone,” Miller said. “They are all a great way to meet new people, and I think they are essential to the college
experience.”
