REVIEW: Taylor Swift’s “Red” is pure gold
Ladies and gentlemen, Taylor Swift has done it again. The 22-year-old sensation has managed to catch the admiration of thousands, possibly millions, with her fourth studio album “Red.”
Even though Swift is a country star, her newest album has a definite pop feel. The normally country-themed love songs have more of an edge to them that is obviously reaching the masses already in its first week of release.
The album sold 262,000 copies the first day out and is expected to sell over one million in its first week.
The usual theme of falling in love, falling out of love and the happiness and heartbreak from those life challenges continues, but with a more mature feel.
Yes, Swift is still singing songs about her ex-boyfriends like she has done since she was 16 years old, but her there is more of a punch to them now.
It’s obvious that the songs “Red,” “I Knew You Were Trouble”, and the well-known “We Are Never Getting Back Together” are about exes, and I, along with everyone else, will spend the next two weeks attempting to figure out who her newest songwriting victims are.

The lyrics, as always, are simple yet heartfelt. At least they are to my inner 16-year-old girl. Nonetheless, almost every song has the catchy, stuck in your head essence that Taylor Swift songs usually do.
While the style is maturing, it’s become evident in this album that Swift is pushing her vocal limits.
I’ve noticed Swift having a hard time producing the vocal quality needed to match up with the mature sound of her new album.
This is easily heard on the heartfelt song “Everything Has Changed” featuring English artist Ed Sheeran. Sheeran’s voice comes off as smooth and well developed and Swift is struggling to compete with this throughout the song.
This album is definitely Swift’s first and necessary attempt at entering a mature music world.
