Yummy or Crummy?
Last Wednesday I was jonesing for a good greasy burger and fries. I had recently heard about how good Leo’s bar burgers were, so I thought I’d give it a try.
My friend and I walked in to Leo’s Bar and Grill, also known as Leo’s Lounge, at about 7:30 p.m., and there were already quite a few full tables and people around the bar. It wasn’t packed, but the bar was fairly busy, which I took as a good sign.
We walked in and picked a booth at the back of the building. We only waited a couple minutes before a perky server came over and brought us water and menus.
They had pretty good options on the menus ranging from steak to cheeseballs, and all was at a pretty fair price, especially for a college student on a budget.
I really was planning on getting a burger, but eventually I chose the Chicken Philly sandwich while my friend got the Leo’s burger. We had to wait awhile for our food to arrive, but we ordered an appetizer as well, so it was understandable.
For an appetizer we had the garlic mushrooms, which we thought wouldn’t be breaded because there was something else called breaded mushrooms on the menu, but they were breaded, and really pretty good. Not very garlicky, but still good.
When we got our food it looked and smelled delicious. My sandwich was packed with chicken, peppers, onions and completely covered in cheese, and maybe I have a problem, but I’m not crazy about cheese. I like it, sure, but I get tired of it. I understand most people like cheese more than I do.
On the flip side, something I really like and appreciate that is quite simple is a toasted bun. Both the buns of my sandwich and my friends’ burger buns were toasted and crispy. Both of us were pretty happy with our sandwiches, and the ‘brew city’ fries that accompanied the meals were really good too. I’m no fry connoisseur, but these were great — especially with a side of ranch.
As soon as we were done we asked for the check and paid right away. We had been there for less than an hour, but it would have been a great place to hang out and drink a few beers. They had games going on all around the bar, but it was still quiet enough to have a conversation.
While I personally don’t know many people who frequent Leo’s, I’m definitely going to recommend the place to my friends.
All-in-all, Leo’s was a great place to get cheap burgers, a beer and catch a game without being in the thick of the college crowd.
