Main break denies students water for more than nine hours
University of South Dakota officials said a water main break was the reason water was shut off Dec. 12 for students living in Burgess and Norton Halls.
Water service was also shut off in Dakota Hall and the Arts and Sciences building.
Student Services emailed students living in the residence halls around 8:40 a.m. to inform them that the city of Vermillion had notified them of the needed repairs to the main, and that the city was not able to provide the university with a time table for the completion of the work.
With students already dealing with the stress of pending finals, water was not restored to the buildings until 6 p.m.
