What have I been playing
It’s hard to believe that an entire month of the New Year has already passed. The new generation is off to a slow start, but the games coming out recently have been sweet. We just need to wait until March rolls around because that’s when the big guns come into play.
But what games did I pick up over the last couple of weeks?
Hearthstone is going to be my biggest game moving into my rotation. It is tailored specifically to what is going on in real life. I needed a game that is quick, not too difficult and fun to play. And Hearthstone achieves this in spades.
I finally managed to grind all the classes to level 10 just to get a feel for them. My favorite class right now would be the Mage since she has a lot of strong basic cards I can work with. I still need to play a lot more and expand my decks so other classes become more viable. Hopefully in the future I can start using the Warrior and Druid classes since I really like their style.
With mostly basic cards, I have gotten to Silver in ranked play. I am going to keep chugging along to see how far I can get before I hit a wall.
Last week, Saints Row IV was a free weekend game. I decided to take on the challenge and blitz through the entire game before the expiration date. And what a ride that was.
Saints Row IV reminds me how games used to be: crazy fun. The game turns the ludicrous meter to max this time around.
Experimenting with all of the abilities and running through Steelport was awesome. The world just became this massive playground for you to be in.
I also have to give props for the retro gaming shoutouts. The most obvious example of this is the Double Dragon reference when you have to save Johnny Gat from his nightmare. They also had missions involving Saints Row 2 story lines and a pseudo blue screen of death to the Saints Row 1 title screen. That title screen blew my mind.
I blitzed the entire game in about nine-10 hours. I didn’t have time to complete all the side missions and I didn’t feel the need to. I was satisfied just finishing another video game saga.
Lastly, I completed Tomb Raider. There isn’t a whole lot to say about this one, as I have already mentioned everything I could about this game. It is a solid triple A title that I would easily recommend to anybody.
All I am hoping out of that game is that we get a sequel that is just as good as this one. The developers can take the story in just about any direction now. It would be interesting to see if they take Lara Croft through some of the areas from previous games. That would be a great shootout to the predecessors.
I will continue to play Hearthstone and honing my skills to that game. It seems like that is the direction I am going in these days.
