McDonald’s, Burger King serve late night snackers with walk-thru
Every so often, senior Steve Afryl likes to have a late night snack. That’s when he decides to go on a walk.
“For a late night snack, McDonald’s is one of the only places open and it tastes good at that time,” Afryl said. “If anyone is ever in trouble or needs help, they know that it’s open 24/7 and someone will always be there anytime of the day.”
The Vermillion McDonald’s caters to students’ needs and wishes every day such as allowing students to pay for their meals in Coyote Cash and allowing them to walk through the drive-thru late at night to order from the window when they can’t or shouldn’t drive.
Recently, McDonald’s has had an issue of theft with the walk-thru service.
Twice in one week, someone has stolen the doorbell outside the ordering window. A few weeks ago McDonald’s management placed a sign outside the walk-thru window warning students that if the doorbell is stolen again, then McDonald’s will stop serving walkers.
Jeanie Gervik, the general manager, said she does not want it to get to the point where the walk-thru gets taken away from students.
McDonald’s is affected by every theft that happens because the doorbell is very expensive to replace each time.
“We possibly will not take orders through the walk-thru anymore. We want people to be respectful, and not scream and holler at the windows. The overnight workers work hard and we want them to be respected,” she said. “We love all of the students that come through and 90 percent of them are really good about the walk-thru. Not everyone, just a few need to be more respectful.”
McDonald’s isn’t the only fast-food place in town to serve late night snacks.
Recently, Burger King started a walk-thru service for students during select days of the week.
“We only allow students to walk through Fridays and Saturdays. Since the dining room closes at 11 p.m. we still want to continue serving people so that’s why we have started the walk through service,” said Burger King employee Bree Cook.
