Women’s golf finishes second at UNO Invitational

USD women’s golf team finished second in the opening meet of its season, the UNO Invitational.

The nine-team UNO Invitational is played in three rounds over two days at ArborLinks Golf Course in Nebraska City, NE. South Dakota State shot 28-over-par to win, while USD shot 56-over to place second. North Dakota State placed third with a score of 61-over-par.

USD placed second after the first round on Friday, but fell behind NDSU during the second round. A strong showing on Saturday helped USD regain second place, which they held until the finish.

Freshman Jennifer Vincent and Senior Lexi Peterson shot lowest for USD, tying at sixth place with a score of 13-over-par. Freshman Laerke Jensen, who shot the best opening round out of the Coyote team, tied for eighth with three other competitors at 16-over. Junior Katie Bartlett tied for seventeenth at 17-over-par.

Vincent was the only USD golfer to finish all three rounds under a score of 80.

SDSU golfers Teresa Toscano (even par) and Sydney Bormann (six-over-par) finished first and second in the individual portion of the tournament. Emma Groom of NDSU finished third overall at eight-over-par.

The Coyotes travel to Myrtle Beach, SC, to compete in the Golfweek Program Challenge Sept.
