Jan. 16
Caller reported someone asleep in a vehicle parked on a city street. Officers located the person and identified her as the driver. The female was found to be intoxicated and was arrested for a 4th DWI offense as well as other related charges.

Caller reported that her neighbor had been assaulted by his spouse. Officers located the married couple and conducted an investigation. One adult female was arrested for misdemeanor assault and child neglect.

An officer responded to a past tense report of an attempt to steal coins from the laundry room at an apartment complex. A suspect has been identified and the investigation is ongoing.

Officers responded to a residence after receiving information about two possible runaway juveniles who were there. Officers made contact at the residence and located two confirmed runaway juveniles, who were from another state.

Officers responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at a residence. Officers located and interviewed the involved parties, no arrests were made.

Complainant reported a sex crime. Information forwarded to detectives for investigation.

Vermillion Police Department detectives investigated a report of a possible sex crime. Investigation continues.

A hit and run involving a parked vehicle was reported. The suspect vehicle was located and the driver of it was arrested for driving while impaired and hit and run/property damage.

The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services requested assistance with an investigation. Officers assisted.

Vermillion Police Department detectives assisted an out of state law enforcement agency with an active sex crimes investigation.

Officers responded to an apartment complex for a lift assist request. Officers were able to help the requester up and there was no medical emergency.

An officer recognized a driver of a vehicle in the Public Safety Center parking lot and knew the driver’s license status was suspended. The officer cited the driver for driving while suspended.

An officer conducted a traffic stop for an illegal U-turn. The driver was cited for expired registration and warned for the moving offenses.
Jan. 20
An officer stopped a man for having an open container in public. The man immediately tried to flee, and was stopped by the officer and arrested. The man was charged with obstruction, underage consumption, as well as the open container violation. The man was on probation therefore this incident was a violation of his probation conditions.

Vermillion Police Department officers assisted the Beresford Police Department with an active hit and run investigation from that jurisdiction.

Complainant reported that an ex-friend was threatening to post sexually explicit photos of the complainant on social media. The event was happening in another jurisdiction and the complainant was directed to the appropriate law enforcement agency.

Officers responded to a local business to investigate a theft of auto parts. Officers located the suspects and one adult female was arrested for theft, false impersonation and having active arrest warrants.

An officer issued a parking ticket on a vehicle for a parking violation. The officer discovered there were numerous unpaid parking tickets for the vehicle. The vehicle was towed and impounded. Charges are pending.

An officer stopped a vehicle for not having its lights on after dark. Investigation resulted in the driver being arrested for DUI, Underage Consumption, and Possession of a Fake License.

Officers responded to a 911 hangup call. The caller first refused to provide information, when contacted by police the caller clearly lied about what had occurred. Investigation revealed the events that caused the 911 call occurred on Campus. University Police investigated and arrested the caller for underage consumption and domestic assault.
