Editorial: Welcome back from The Volante
To all students, faculty and staff, The Volante would like to formally welcome everyone back. Though it may not be under the circumstances anyone predicted, it is great to see everyone on campus.
And to the class of 2024, we would like to introduce ourselves. We are The Volante; the student voice at USD since 1887.
You can find us every Wednesday in the red newsstands across campus. The Volante is dedicated to providing USD and Vermillion with the best information possible.
We take pride in being the students’ voice at USD. We want to hear from you, we want you to write
To all students, The Volante is incredibly excited to tell your stories. Our generation is made up of creators, innovators, trendsetters and most importantly, pioneers of the new college experience.
The word unprecedented has been used explicitly but encompasses every aspect of our world. We are the generation of college students at USD that are staring uncertainty right in the eyes and saying “Bring it on.” To say we are rolling with the punches is an understatement.
But with all that said, we are still continuing to do amazing things. Our student body consists of award winning scholars, athletes, artists and leaders.
All of your stories deserve to be told and that is why we do what we do. The Volante is your voice.
We could take this opportunity to lecture you about how the semester rests in your hands. We could non-stop tell you to social distance or wear a mask, but we think you have heard enough of that. Though those things are extremely important, we think we should convey a different message right now.
The best way to deal with all of the uncertainty and challenges is to continue to be ourselves. 2020 has proven to be one of the most difficult years of our lives so far, but it is not stopping us from finding new ways to express ourselves. College is the time to find yourself and nothing should stop that.
So as the semester continues, keep finding ways to be you. No matter what happens, The Volante will still be here for more years of unprecedence.
Have a great semester Yotes.
