Vex and the Verm(A Column): This One is Personal
* Vex /veks/ verb: To distress, trouble, harass, worry, or annoy (a person, a group, a person’s thoughts or feelings, etc.).
This one is personal. For two years in a row, I have been denied a position as an RA here at University Housing. Granted, as mentioned in my last column, I didn’t even want to be an RA anymore.
Despite that though, I wanted to be the one to tell them. I wanted to deny them.
Now I’m stuck in my petty mindset and honestly just completely over USD Housing. Whether it’s the fact that my room is constantly humid and stuffy. With a huge brown spot crossing over multiple ceiling tiles in my room, which after a whole year, was just replaced last week.
Despite the physical problems of housing, I’m constantly surprised by the characters that they choose to represent their highly esteemed institution, and as I mentioned, this one is personal.
You know maybe I’m upset because of possibly hearing people check up on an RA, asking if he is still alive, in much more than a joking tone. Or maybe walking past the one’s door and hearing an RA having a full-on screaming breakdown during a conversation.
Maybe it’s that one of the RA’s is “dating” a freshman, and while they are not on the same floor, not even the same level (pun intended), it should still make you pause.
Yes, they are students and students go through a lot, but I’m a student too, and I can’t seem to understand why them and not me.
I guess that’s the real question in life though.
I’m still grateful for all the memories I had in those walls though. All the friends I made; but I just can’t go back there, and I don’t want to, but I wanted to make that decision.
It’s time to move on and out of those dorms. Hasta la vista.
