Kramer to perform in senior trombone recital
After playing trombone for 14 years, senior Tom Kramer will present his final bass trombone recital.
The recital will feature music by composers Lassen, Jacobs, Dubois and Lebedev which will be held in the Colton Recital Hall at 7 p.m. and will last about 45 minutes.
Kramer said most of the pieces he will be playing are classical and post-classical.
“For every concert you have a fast piece, a slow piece, a pretty piece and the final piece,” Kramer said. “My final piece will take all of those elements and put it together. I’m also playing a very French piece called “Cortegg” which will be really fun.”
To select the music for the recital, Kramer said he sat down with his professor and went through a lot of music to reach a decision. “My professor printed off some sheet music and we listened to some audio files to see if there were any pieces I would be interested in playing and we figured it out that way,” Kramer said.
Piano accompanist, Parker Knox, will be accompanying Kramer and said that the diversity of the music stands out.
“There’s lush, quiet parts in some of the songs but there’s also exciting moments. There is one section with a racehorse scene being depicted in one of them,” Knox said.
To prepare for the recital, Kramer said he puts in at least two hours of practice each day.
Knox compared the senior recital to a final academic presentation.
“Each student has their dissertation and their thesis for an acedemic research project. Music students are doing the same thing only in their musical presentation. It’s a highlight for a musical student to be able to present the culmination of the work they’ve done over the last four or five years of studying their instrument,” Knox said.
Kramer said he is excited for the performance and is hoping for a great recital.
