The 1990s one of the greatest movie decades
For most of us, the 1990s bring us back to childhood. Certain memories like toys, TV shows and movies will always hold a place in our hearts as “the good ol’ days” before adulthood hit us and ruined everything.
The 1990s was also a great decade for entertainment in the movie business because more than 40 movies made it on the Top 250 Movies of All Time list.
There were many notable films in this decade, such as “The Silence of the Lambs,” “Saving Private Ryan” and “American Beauty.” But one film in particular left a lasting impression on me, and I still enjoy watching it.
“The Green Mile,” released in 1999, was nominated for four Academy Awards — Best Picture, Best Actor in a Supporting Role, Best Sound and Best Writing — one Golden Globe and more than 27 other awards.
The film also serves as another memorable mark in author Stephen King’s career. Set in the South during the 1930s, the movie displays the lives of death row guards and their inmates. The leading role was played by Tom Hanks — an actor who owned Hollywood in the 1990s.
From rapists to murderers to the nicest, strangest, inmate you’ll ever meet, “The Green Mile” is a chronological story of these men from the moment they enter death row to when they meet the electric chair.
The film portrays nearly all current events that occurred at that time, heightening its credibility and watch-worthiness. One of the inmates was wrongfully blamed for the rape and murder of two local girls. Because of his skin color he didn’t receive a fair trial.
Another conflict involves one of the guard’s wives, who suffers from a disease modern medicine could cure, and perhaps one of the most prominent issues within the plot is the struggle most guards encounter on a daily basis — what is right and what is needed to be done.
This movie also serves as one of the few three-hour movies I can sit through while staying attentive, and you never want it to end. If you’re looking for an action-packed movie with a nice balance of historical perspective, “The Green Mile” is sure to meet your criteria.
