Partying in college shouldn’t dictate your education

When you were younger and you thought about college, what you usually thought about was studying and working toward your degree.

That idea has greatly changed over the years. Instead of the idea of studying, people often think about going to parties and hooking up.

Now, if you don’t do those things you become someone people do not want to be around.

Parties can be fun, but they are not for everyone. While in college, you should be able to not go to parties and still feel like you belong. Studies should come before going out, but that has started to get thrown aside.

Some people care more about where the next party is than when their next test is. Some people are even choosing colleges based on the school’s party record instead of whether or not it is well known for what they want to go into or if the professors are reputable.

It’s sad when you ask someone why they are going somewhere for school and they answer because that’s where the parties are.

There are parties at every school. Whether you want to partake in them or not should be about how much homework and studies you have to do yet.

My generation is starting to forget that they are working toward a degree, and it is not in partying. Partying can be fun on occasion, but not every weekend.

If you do not go out and party you start to feel like an outcast. People are harder to meet, but you have to know people if you want to go to a party.

It is an endless cycle of you having to know the right people or you feel like you do not belong. Fitting in is hard enough, but when you add the pressure of having to get drunk to fit in and have fun, it starts to feel like it is too much.

The liquid courage may help some people make friends, but in the morning you are back to being that person that no one knows.

Partying is fun and a great way to relieve some stress. It is not the answer to your problems.

If you want to meet people, talk to the person sitting next to you in class. Ask them to study with you or if you have a noon class ask them to grab lunch with you after class. By doing that you meet people and you get your studies done at the same time.

You can also join clubs and other groups on campus. The main thing to remember is to have fun – just don’t forget about your schoolwork, especially at this point in the semester.
