Fashion: Columnists encourage professional dress

By Taryn Northrup and Lauren Svatos

From blazers and pencil skirts to sundresses and sandals, fashion is an ever-evolving industry used for self-expression. Fashion trends and fads are always changing, but for certain events, there needs to be a consistent fashion standard.

With all of the different fashion trends, each girl is able to express her own sense of style.

While spending the last week on campus, it has been easy to see the many different style choices of not only girls in our own city, but the group of delegates as a whole.

In certain scenarios, the “comfy casual” look is acceptable. In others, however, it might not be.

At Girls State, the “dress for success” motto is enforced. Some delegates might have different opinions, but a sophisticated, professional look should be advised.  This way, delegates not only can act the part, but also look it.

Many real-life situations can be made relevant when considering a dress code controversy.  Imagine being in a future job.  Would it be professional to walk into a job with an outfit that is too revealing?

Think of the way a boss would look at someone who walked in looking unprofessional. One’s outfit could make or break a first impression.  While considering these thoughts, make it a point to dress for the occasion.

The dress requirements for the first few days were higher than Thursday when jeans were allowed.  The privilege of wearing jeans gives the delegates a break from the formality of the dress code.

The requirements and dress codes should be held at a higher standard, considering the circumstances.  Making a better effort to look a little more presentable is not that hard.

Skirt and dress length also is something every person should take into consideration when coming to this type prestigious program.  Knowing what to wear to events is something every girl should understand.

Fashion comes in many different forms, and being able to choose an outfit based on the altercation is something all girls should be able to grasp.
