People of the Pack: Sydney Novak
Sydney Novak is a first-year health services administration major from Viborg, SD.
Sara Cappiello: What are you involved in on campus?
Sydney Novak: I’m intramural sports and the honors program. I play volleyball and play flag football. Our team is really bad but it’s fun.
SC: What have you enjoyed the most about going to school at USD so far?
SN: I’ve met a lot of new people.
SC: What are you most looking forward to about fall?
SN: I’m excited for Halloween and watching scary movies in the old dorm room. I love Halloween.
SC: Do you prefer summer or fall?
SN: It’s hot in the summer and all I do is work, so I have much more fun in the fall, going to sporting events and such.
SC: Since this is your first year here, what have you missed about home?
SN: I miss my friends and my family. I also miss my dog, Charlie who’s 15. It’s been hard adjusting to being by myself and actually having the drive to wake up in the morning and not skip class.
SC: We’re over a month into the semester now, so have you developed a daily routine?
SN: I snooze my alarm 15 minutes before class, get up and put a hat on, and go to class. It’s quite a schedule.
SC: How are you feeling about your first Dakota Days coming up next week?
SN: I’m kind of scared because it’s going to be nuts. But I think I’ll be alright. There are a lot of people coming, so that’ll be fun.
SC: What personal goals have you set for the semester?
SN: I need to start going to the gym to avoid that freshman 15. I also don’t want to fail my classes because they’re much harder than high school. I don’t study at all, so I want to learn how to study.
