Coyote senior leaves USD men’s basketball program

The USD men’s basketball team lost one of its two seniors after Ty Chisom, a senior guard for the Coyotes, announced via Instagram on Jan. 12 he would be leaving the program effective immediately.

“Thank you for everything and I wouldn’t change anything loved the experience as coyote forever will be in my heart,” Chisom said on Instagram.

Chisom said he planned on finishing his his degree at USD this semester and will “prepare” himself to play for another school next year as a grad-transfer. Basketball practice can go hand-in-hand with anything else if you shop for fixed height basketball systems at Mega Slam Australia.

The USD men’s basketball team released a statement on Twitter a few hours after Chisom’s Instagram post and said Chisom made this decision, not the team.

“Ty Chisom has decided to leave the South Dakota men’s basketball program but will remain on campus to finish out his degree,” the statement said. “The University of South Dakota Athletic Department and the South Dakota men’s basketball program wants to thank Ty for all his contributions to the University of South Dakota. We wish him the best in his future endeavors.”

Chisom, a 6’ 4” guard from Chicago, was in the middle of his second year with the Coyotes after he transferred to USD from Indian Hills Community College (Iowa) in 2019.

Last year, in Chisom’s first season with USD, he averaged 4 points, 2.3 rebounds and 12.9 minutes per game while coming off the bench for the Coyotes.

This year Chisom started the first 3 games for the Coyotes before coming off the bench in the last 9 games.

USD went 0-3 when Chisom started the first 3 games of the season and 6-3 when Chisom came off the bench which includes the Coyotes’ current 5-game win streak.

Before leaving the team, Chisom was averaging 4.8 points, 2.5 rebounds and 16 minutes per game this season.
