Vermillion Welcomes New Music Club
Earlier this month, it was announced that Vermillion’s own AV Lounge would be the setting for a brand new album club that invites music fans of all types to come together and talk about the different kinds of music.
The first meeting, hosted by AV Lounge owner Joseph Raiche, will be on September 30th at last from 7 p.m. until roughly 8:30 pm. Since 2022, Raiche and his wife have been running the AV Lounge, booking various performing arts, such as live music and comedy, with the goal of bringing different types of entertainment to the town.
This meeting will cover “Double Infinity,” the latest album by folk group “Big Thief.” Besides being a personal favorite of Raiche, this band was chosen for their thoughtful lyrics and sounds that will hopefully inspire discussions about them.
The club currently plans to meet once a month at the AV Lounge, with each meeting focusing on a new, recently released album. One aim of the group is to consistently introduce different types of genres of music and highlight lesser-known groups.
Attendees are encouraged to weigh in during discussions, with the emphasis being that you can talk if you want or simply listen and hang out. Attendees can also help decide what album will be the subject of each meeting, with the door being open to older albums.
“As long as people come, I plan on running this club for as long as I can, even if it’s just one other person, Raiche said.”
The inspiration for the club came from the fact that Vermillion hasn’t had anything like it in recent memory, on or off campus. The establishment of this club will hopefully allow a space for people to passionately talk about art. If it runs long enough, Raiche also hopes that building up a music lovers community will encourage more bands not only to stop in South Dakota, but specifically in Vermillion itself.
“I know it can be expensive to get here, but if a band books a venue in Omaha, don’t stop there! We are only two hours away and would love to have you, said Raiche.”
